Brandon Jennings has signed with Pallacanestro Virtus Roma of the Italian pro league. Contact terms were unavailable but sources say it is a multiyear contract with NBA release provisions that would be fair to both parties.

Former Arizona recruit Brandon Jennings is expected to sign with a European-based agent, get an American-based marketing director for sneaker company deals and secure a contract with a European or Israeli team within the next two weeks, according to Jennings’ advisors.

Brandon Jennings is no longer an Arizona Wildcat. In an unprecedented move, Jennings will forgo playing in college and instead pursue a professional career in Europe next season before likely entering the 2009 NBA draft.

In a statement released through his attorney, Jennings said:

“Over the course of the last two months I have consulted a number of people in basketball before coming to this decision. I would like to thank the University of Arizona for their interest and support through this process.”

Brandon Jennings will have to wait another week to find out if he is eligible to play basketball at the University of Arizona. The College Board won’t release his SAT score until July 11th. The latest delay may entice Jennings to sign with a European team but he made it clear that it had to take a perfect situation for him to play in Europe:

“I need a team that needs a point guard, a coach who would take the time to work with me, an American on the team who could show me the ropes and playing time to show off my game.”

Is Brandon Jennings going to Europe, the NBA D-League, or the University of Arizona? The East Valley Tribune has reported that Jennings has not received a high enough score. But Jennings’ attorney, Jeffrey B. Valle, has denied the report, saying the scores will not be officially released until July 5.

Could Brandon Jennings be playing in Europe next season instead of for the Arizona Wildcats? It’s a possibility as ESPN reports.

Jennings will find out on Thursday if he passed the standardized test to allow him to attend Arizona. If he doesn’t, a year in Europe or even the NBA D-League is not out of the question.

“I still want to go to Arizona but if things don’t go right, I’m considering going overseas.”

Brandon Jennings will have some hardware to add to his collection this summer. Jennings, who has been compared to Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson, and been called “one of the top 10 players ever” at a school that has produced the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Josh Smith, and Jerry Stackhouse, was named the 2008 Player of the Year on PARADE’s 52nd annual All-America Boys Basketball Team. He set Oak Hill records by averaging 35 points a game and scoring 63 points in in game, adding 6.8 assists and 3.2 steals a game while shooting 53% from the floor and 84% from the foul line.
