Brandon Jennings at the NBPA Top 100 Camp

June 27th, 2007 · 5 Comments

Brandon Jennings, the 6-1 senior point guard out of Oak Hill and future Arizona Wildcat was an unstoppable human fast break at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. Legendary high school scout Bob Gibbons on his thoughts of Jennings:

“I’d say Brandon Jennings is the best player here. Talent-wise, he’s just head and shoulders above the other point guards,”

Brandon agreeing on Gibbon’s assessment:

“Having former pros teaching you is real exciting, but to be honest, I’ve had my way with everyone at this camp so far. Nobody here has really been any competition for me. I think I’m the king of [high school] point guards right now.”

Jennings on what separates him from the rest:

“I don’t respect West Coast point guards; they’re too Hollywood for me. I’m more of an East Coast, flashy-type point guard. Someone like Jrue Holiday [another top-ranked Cali guard], he’s real smooth, goes to work in the first three quarters–but he’s not a killer yet. Me, I’m a killer.”

Jennings would have jumped directly to the NBA?

June 24th, 2007 · No Comments

Brandon Jennings, the Oak Hill Academy (Va.) star who has committed to play at Arizona after he graduates next summer and rated by most experts as the top senior point guard in the country believes he is good enough to make the leap to the NBA upon graduation next summer. The only problem is the age minimum from the collective bargaining agreement which requires players to attend college at least one year.

“I really don’t like it. As you see with Kevin Durant and Greg Oden, they were ready coming out of high school. The one year probably helped them, but still, even without that one year, they would have done their thing.”

“It just takes the fun out of the draft. We (high school stars) used to be like, ‘who is going to be the next high school player who goes No. 1?’”

Arizona fans can thank the NBA for at least 1 year of Jennings in a Wildcat uniform.
